Amazon shuts down Chime, its Zoom alternative | TechCrunch
Briefly

Amazon has announced the shutdown of its video conferencing service, Chime, which will cease operations on February 20, 2026. The decision comes after Chime, launched in 2017, failed to gain significant traction outside Amazon. New account sign-ups ended on February 19, 2025, although existing customers can continue using the platform until the official shutdown. Users are encouraged to transition to other services, like Zoom or AWS Wickr, as Amazon opts to adopt Zoom as its primary meeting application moving forward.
As part of this transition, Amazon stopped accepting new Chime accounts as of Feb. 19, 2025.
Launched in 2017 with a focus on business usage, Chime had little adoption outside of Amazon itself.
Amazon recommends other solutions like AWS Wickr, Zoom, or Salesforce's Slack.
Amazon will make Zoom its official meeting app going forward.
