Since 2024 started, Amazon has committed to about $10 billion apiece to data center projects in Mississippi, Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina as it builds up its infrastructure to try to keep up with other tech giants making leaps in AI."

Employees unable or unwilling to find new roles will receive severance pay, outplacement services and health insurance benefits. Amazon has about 350,000 corporate employees and a total workforce of approximately 1.56 million. The company is accelerating investment in generative AI and cloud infrastructure, including a planned $10 billion campus in North Carolina and roughly $10 billion commitments to data center projects in multiple states. Amazon is competing with major AI and cloud firms.
