His new role comes as a16z heavily invests in crypto and web3 technologies, reflecting a broader strategy to influence government policy, evident by recent high-profile appointments of firm affiliates in government roles.
"Under Chair Gensler, the SEC has become a rogue agency," said McHenry during a hearing in September, accusing the SEC chair of "regulation by enforcement."
A16z has raised $7.6 billion in funds dedicated to crypto/web3 tech as of 2022, and they are embedding themselves into policy and government lately.
