Ross Lovegrove, known for his futuristic designs, partners with SpaceX to evolve his iconic Bernhardt Go chair as part of the Polaris space missions. The project, aimed at raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, demonstrates a blend of art, science, and philanthropy. Lovegrove's original design, created using aluminum, is now being retrofitted with magnesium to enhance strength and reduce weight. This collaboration marks a significant evolution for both the chair and Lovegroveâs vision, further intertwining design with space exploration.
Having worked on a project that connected artist Refik Anadol with the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health, CreativeWorkStudios turned to Lovegrove for its next endeavor, a partnership with the Polaris space missions to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
While the first Polaris Dawn mission last year yielded a few firsts, such as the first commercial spacewalk, the Bernhardt Go scored one of its own when it launched in the early 2000s.
