Founded in 2014, Athlon Avia specializes in drone production for Ukraine's military, prompted by Russia's annexation of Crimea. CEO Artem Vyunnyk discussed the company's development of strong ties with the government and its growing production since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. With capabilities to produce up to 4 million drones annually, Athlon's drones cater to various military needs, including surveillance and precision strikes. Their key products, A1-CM and ST-35, are designed for effective military use while aiming to minimize collateral damage.
"Since then, Athlon has developed very close relations with the ministry of defense and with the government, taking on dozens of state contracts," Vyunnyk said.
"Kyiv has ramped up drone production since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with President Zelenskyy stating Ukraine could produce 4 million drones a year."
"The A1-CM has a range of up to 50 km and has been used for reconnaissance and artillery fire adjustment in eastern Ukraine."
"The ST-35 weapon system is designed to strike targets in densely built urban areas while minimizing collateral damage by using various warhead types, including high explosive and thermobaric."
