Lonestar partnered with Phison to send a data center infrastructure to the moon aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Chris Stott, Lonestar’s CEO, emphasized the necessity for off-Earth data storage, likening data to an invaluable resource more precious than oil. The collaboration, which started in 2021, utilized customized SSDs designed specifically for space conditions, reflecting years of research and development to ensure reliability in the harsh lunar environment.
Humanity's most precious item, outside of us, is data. They see data as the new oil. I'd say it's more precious than that.
We took a standard product and were able to customize whatever they need for these products and we launched it. So it's a very exciting journey.
