Hostelworld will acquire U.S.-based "things to do" aggregator OccasionGenius for $12 million in cash to expand its product mix. The acquisition adds activity and experience listings to the hostel-booking platform and is intended to supercharge growth in a social travel network. The network combines people and profiles with chat content and data that are mined using AI. The combined inventory will include places to stay and things to do to create a more integrated travel offering. Hostelworld's social network counts 3 million members.
