Mach Industries, a defense tech startup founded by 21-year-old Ethan Thornton, has secured a significant contract with the U.S. Army for a precision cruise missile. To support its growth, the company plans to establish its first factory, Forge 1, in Huntington Beach, California. This 115,000 square foot facility will not only innovate defense technology but also embody a decentralized manufacturing model aimed at enhancing production efficiency. Mach's Viper UAV, which offers low-cost and vertical takeoff capabilities, exemplifies this approach and is part of a broader push to build multiple production locations both domestically and internationally.
The Huntington factory, known as Forge 1, will serve as a decentralized production hub for Mach Industries, supporting the company's innovative defense technology initiatives.
Ethan Thornton noted that the Viper UAV’s cost efficiency is key, being up to 300 times cheaper than conventional UAVs and fostering innovative manufacturing strategies.
