Amazon will buy thousands of pedal-assist cargo vehicles from Rivian spinoff Also | TechCrunch
"We really understand how to work with each other,"
"This is where having Rivian as a large shareholder is very handy because we can do all this tight coordination through one fleet management portal that manages your large vehicles, like the EDV vans, and the Also products."
"There's no guesswork and Also has benefited from a lot of input from the Rivian team, which has been involved, because they're so close to Amazon."
Also, a micromobility startup spun out of Rivian, landed a multi-year commercial deal with Amazon to supply thousands of TM-Q pedal-assist cargo quads that carry over 400 pounds and can use bike lanes. The collaboration will customize the vehicles for Amazon’s delivery needs in Europe and the United States. The TM-Q is scheduled to launch in 2026 and was unveiled alongside a new ebike, the TM-B, at an Oakland event. Rivian holds a minority stake, contributed technology, retail presence, economies of scale, and operational lessons from its EDV electric delivery van program. Rivian founder RJ Scaringe will serve on Also’s board and emphasized integrated fleet management between vans and micromobility products.
