This new film, inspired by The Wall Street Journal's investigative series, "The Facebook Files," will delve into the societal repercussions of Facebook on youth mental health, misinformation, and the events surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot. Although early casting decisions are not clear, there is speculation regarding Jesse Eisenberg's return as Mark Zuckerberg. Sorkin has expressed an ongoing interest in this sequel since the original's success and critical acclaim.
Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay for the original film, will write and direct the new installment. Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser are also producers on the project.
