A vigil in Monrovia honored Carlos Roberto Montoya, who died after fleeing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and being struck by an SUV. Organized by local students and a community group, the event featured speakers including politicians and community leaders. Rep. Judy Chu emphasized that Montoya's death resulting from fear instilled by the Trump administration's immigration policies. The Department of Homeland Security stated they were not pursuing Montoya at the time of the incident, which occurred after local operations had concluded. A silent memorial vigil was held at the Home Depot location of the ICE raid.
Rep. Judy Chu stated, "Make no mistake, his death is a direct result of the Trump administration's strategy of sowing fear and intimidation throughout our community."
Eduardo Vargas, a community organizer said, "The community responds first. The community comes with their bullhorns... so it's really just talking to each other and getting stuff accomplished."
