The #MeToo campaign leader using the Epstein scandal to champion victims: The survivors are the heroes'
Briefly

The political landscape surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell raises concerns about the #MeToo movement's future and survivors' voices. Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News anchor, emphasizes the importance of survivors in the Epstein case. Alongside Julie Roginsky, Carlson leads the group Lift Our Voices, advocating for the removal of non-disclosure agreements that hinder victims from sharing their experiences. Their mission is increasingly crucial amid Maxwell's legal battles, as many young women who alleged abuse remain silent due to prior settlements that silenced their narratives.
"The survivors are the heroes in this [Epstein] case because there would be no case without them and their courage and bravery in speaking up," Carlson told the Guardian last week.
"We aim to continue lifting [survivors] up and letting them know that we are here to support them," Carlson said.
Carlson and Roginsky are now heading a pressure group, Lift Our Voices, aiming to overturn legally binding non-disclosure agreements that prevent employees from speaking out.
Evidently, the settlements that amounted to $121m to around 150 survivors came with a release that silenced many victims' voices.
