Students, faculty, and alumni at St. John's University are urging an end to a new partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Critics argue it poses risks to the community and contradicts the university's values. A petition has garnered over 900 signatures, as opposing voices fear that the timing of the announcement aligns with ongoing federal immigration actions. University officials, however, argue that the partnership will benefit students professionally through direct access to CBP's resources while defending the need for skilled professionals in homeland security.
"We want this partnership to end before it starts," Chetty said.
"Protecting our homeland is an incredible challenge, and we cannot do that without your contribution," Russo said.
