Our sense of safety was violated': a Black suburb in Ohio confronts repeated threats from white supremacists
Briefly

Lincoln Heights, a largely African American community near Cincinnati, faced a violent confrontation with neo-Nazis on 7 February. The neo-Nazis displayed racist iconography and attempted to intimidate locals during their demonstration. Residents gathered to oppose the extremists but were met with racial slurs and minimal police intervention, raising questions about law enforcement's response. Although no permits were issued for the neo-Nazi gathering, it was deemed legal by local authorities based on free speech laws. The event has left citizens questioning police actions and their effectiveness in safeguarding the community.
On 7 February, a group of neo-Nazis paraded on a highway overpass adjacent to Lincoln Heights, unfurling flags with Nazi and racist iconography that included the phrase 'America for the white man.' The event shocked the local predominantly African American community that prides itself on its history as a self-governing Black community since the 1920s.
When locals heard about the demonstration, many immediately rallied to confront the armed and masked extremists. Despite the police presence, which aimed to maintain calm, residents experienced intimidation and fear from the militia’s hateful speech and loaded weaponry.
