Glasgow child abuse ring tried to murder child by pushing her in microwave
Briefly

In a shocking case from Glasgow, a child abuse ring consisting of seven individuals has been convicted of egregious crimes, including gang raping children and attempting to murder a victim by pushing her into a microwave. The offenders, consisting of both men and women, received sentences ranging from eight to 20 years and will face lifelong monitoring due to the severity of their actions. The court highlighted a pattern of systematic abuse between 2012 and 2019, leaving a lasting impact on the victims. Following the trial, sentences were adjusted as risk assessments evaluated the offenders' threat levels upon potential release.
The trial, which lasted for about eight weeks, heard evidence of systematic child sex abuse, described as harrowing by Lord Beckett who said it plunges to the depths of human depravity.
Sentencing was delayed until December while risk assessments were carried out, which judge Lord Beckett had ordered due to the severity of the crimes.
Four of the group: Owens, Lannery, Brannan and Williams, were found guilty of attempting to murder a child by pushing her into a microwave and trapping her in other places.
Owens and Lannery were jailed for 20 and 17 years respectively after being convicted of multiple counts of assault, sexual assault, rape and causing a child to ingest drugs.
