A recent inspection revealed deficiencies in child safeguarding processes within the Tusla-run child protection service. Although there were governance systems in place, they were ineffective at ensuring that all children, particularly in cases involving alleged abusers, were adequately protected. The inspection highlighted lack of communication regarding delays with families and the risks posed by alleged abusers who continued to receive satisfactory Garda vetting. Improvements are required to address management inefficiencies and ensure all children's safety and individual needs are prioritized within the service.
Inspectors found that while most children who were alleged victims of abuse were safeguarded, not all identified children were adequately protected from alleged abusers.
In some cases, delays in communicating with children and their families about safeguarding issues left them without crucial support and information.
