Kenny Dalglish grew up overlooking Ibrox Stadium and supported Rangers from an early age. His father took him to Rangers matches during his childhood. After leaving school he worked as an apprentice joiner while emerging as a promising Scottish talent. He played weekends for Glasgow United and attracted interest from scouts at West Ham and Liverpool. While playing against Celtic's youth side, Jock Stein noticed him and Stein's assistant Sean Fallon visited the Dalglish home. Fallon asked Dalglish's parents whether their son would consider joining Celtic despite the family's Rangers memorabilia. Dalglish later earned 102 caps for Scotland.
