Wigan appoint Caldwell as head coach for second time
"Caldwell, 43, has been in charge at Exeter City since 2022 but returns to the club where he spent six seasons as a player and 18 months in the dugout from April 2015. In his first spell, Caldwell could not prevent the Latics being relegated to League One but brought them back to the Championship as champions in 2016. He was, however, sacked in October of that year following a poor start to the season."
"Caldwell went on to have spells at Chesterfield and Partick Thistle before taking charge of Exeter, racking up 180 games in charge at St James Park. Wigan, who were beaten 4-0 by Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, have been without a permanent manager since parting company with Ryan Lowe on 7 February. Caldwell inherits a side who are without a league win in eight games, having lost the last four, and are 22nd in the League One table,"
Gary Caldwell, 43, has been appointed head coach of Wigan Athletic for a second spell. He previously spent six seasons as a player and managed Wigan from April 2015 for 18 months, achieving promotion to the Championship as 2016 League One champions before being sacked in October 2016. Caldwell later managed Chesterfield, Partick Thistle and Exeter City, accruing 180 games at St James Park. Wigan have been without a permanent manager since 7 February, sit 22nd in League One, are without a league win in eight matches and are a point from safety.
