Toluca won the 2025 Apertura, beating Tigres in a 12-round penalty shootout after a 2-2 aggregate draw, clinching the title 9-8 on penalties. Alexis Vega scored the decisive penalty and returned for the final after missing the entire playoffs. The victory gives Toluca 12 Mexican top-flight championships, tying them with Chivas for second-most all-time. Nine of Toluca's championships have come in the past 30 years. The club's passionate fanbase displayed a red devil tifo reading "Hoy y siempre unidos hasta el final." Toluca entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed following a strong regular season.
