Lutz Pfannenstiel, Aberdeen sporting director, has supported interim manager Peter Leven by appearing in the dugout during recent matches, prompting surprise among some observers. The dugout appearances followed the sacking of Jimmy Thelin and an announcement that Pfannenstiel would support Leven during the temporary spell in charge. Pfannenstiel clarified that he is not pitchside to play manager and that Leven remains the decision-maker. Pfannenstiel cited widespread international practice of directors attending pre-game, half-time or post-game dressing-room sessions and urged Scottish football to consider new approaches rather than relying solely on past norms.
