Byrne acknowledged the FAI are still in a difficult financial position and did say funding for domestic academies will be looked at by his department, as well as praising the association's new Football Pathways plan, but added that any future funding for soccer must be fair to other sports across the country.
Last February, FAI director of football Marc Canham unveiled the new Football Pathways Plan, which set out a 12-year vision to maximize the potential of Irish football across all levels, including aligning the football calendar, introducing a head of football in every club, and emphasizing opportunities for women and girls.
