Want to go to 2026 World Cup games in the Bay Area? Here's what we know about potential matchups
"While we won't know which teams will play in those games until after the group draw Dec. 5, we can already make some educated assumptions about the caliber of the teams that will compete at Levi's Stadium. The 2026 World Cup will be the first tournament with 48 teams. Of those, eight will come from the Asian region, nine from Africa, six from North and Central America and the Caribbean, six from South America, one from Oceania, and 16 from Europe."
"Under that model, the first pot for the 2026 group draw will include the three host nations plus the top nine ranked qualified teams; the second pot will include the next 12 teams based on ranking; the third will have the next 12; and the fourth will have the remaining qualified teams based on ranking, plus slots for teams that haven't qualified yet."
Levi's Stadium will host six World Cup matches during the 2026 tournament: Match 6 (B3 vs. B4) on June 13; Match 20 (J3 vs. J4) on June 16; Match 31 (D2 vs. D4) on June 19; Match 44 (J2 vs. J4) on June 22; Match 60 (D2 vs. D3) on June 25; and a Round of 32 match (1D vs. a top third-place team) on July 1. The 2026 World Cup expands to 48 teams with regional allocations across Asia, Africa, CONCACAF, South America, Oceania, and Europe. FIFA will place teams into 12 groups and organize pots for the group draw based on rankings, with most qualifiers known before the draw.
