Video Assistant Referee is used to identify and correct 'clear and obvious' errors under VAR protocol. Andy Davies is a former Select Group referee with over 12 elite seasons and VAR experience. In the Manchester United vs Brighton incident, Amad Diallo ran into the area and cut back while Maxim De Cuyper challenged, flicking out his right leg. Referee Anthony Taylor did not award a penalty and play continued. VAR Michael Oliver reviewed multiple angles and confirmed no penalty after determining De Cuyper touched the ball during the challenge.
