She has been out of contract since her previous deal expired on Dec. 31 amid a chaotic series of events for the NWSL that developed in reaction to Rodman's future. The deal ended months of uncertainty after Rodman's previous contract expired Dec. 31 and after reports of overseas offers, particularly from England, that the Spirit could not match under the league's $3.5 million team salary cap for 2025. A previously proposed backloaded four-year agreement was rejected by commissioner Jessica Berman for violating the "spirit" of the rules, prompting an NWSLPA grievance and accusations of preemptive salary cap circumvention.
