Simons faces a likely three-match ban that would rule him out of fixtures against Crystal Palace, Brentford and Sunderland. Alexander Isak opened the scoring on 56 minutes and suffered an injury while Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool's lead with a header beating Cristian Romero in the air. Romero was booked for complaining and later dismissed after appearing to lash out at Ibrahima Konaté. Richarlison scored late to reduce the deficit.
