Newly promoted Sunderland are negotiating to sign Ajax striker Brian Brobbey after Chelsea recalled loanee Marc Guiu to cover Liam Delap's hamstring injury. Brobbey, 23, could join for a reported 21.6m and has eight Netherlands caps, 56 goals and 24 assists in 163 Ajax appearances. Sunderland have agreed an initial loan with an option to buy for RB Leipzig right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, subject to a medical. Geertruida played 35 matches for Leipzig last season and joined Leipzig from Feyenoord a year ago. Summer spending has reached 141.5m, including record signings Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra and Granit Xhaka.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have agreed an initial loan with an option to buy for his Dutch compatriot Geertruida, subject to the 25-year-old completing a medical on Monday. Geertruida who is primarily a right-back, played 35 matches for Leipzig last season but is being allowed to leave the German club just a year after joining from Feyenoord. He is expected to become Sunderland's 13th signing of the summer, adding to new defenders like Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Reinildo Mandava and Arthur Masuaku
Sunderland have already spent 141.5m in the transfer window, which is just short of Nottingham Forest's 142m in the summer of 2022, a British record for a promoted club. They have also signed midfielder Habib Diarra for a club record 30m from Strasbourg, winger Simon Adingra from Brighton for 20.5m and midfielder Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen for 17.3m.
