A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault on an 18-year-old woman and a breach of the peace against an 18-year-old man in takeaway premises on Queen Street, Glasgow, in the early hours of Thursday, 19 September.
Police Scotland confirmed the latter charge is being treated as a hate crime, indicating serious implications regarding the nature of the breach of the peace.
The Paisley club previously confirmed the 28-year-old had been suspended pending a precautionary investigation into an alleged incident, with ongoing discussions at board level regarding his future.
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson stated that any decision on Rooney was board level and he was concentrating on the football side of things ahead of a game against Motherwell.
