"We have missed goals from all our ball possession. If there's one player in the history of Liverpool who can score goals, it's Mo Salah. It says a lot about how big a professional he is that he can be away for more than a month with a different team and be fit enough to play 90 minutes for us after one day of training."
"Salah failed to get on the scoresheet despite accumulating a higher expected goals (xG) tally than any other player on the pitch (0.55). But he still looked lively throughout on what was his 88th appearance for Liverpool in major European competitions. Only Jamie Carragher (130) and Steven Gerrard (111) have made more for the club, with Salah's tally matched by Ian Callaghan."
Mohamed Salah returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and played 90 minutes as Liverpool beat Marseille 3-0. Salah had been away since December 13, scoring four goals in six matches as Egypt finished fourth. Earlier in December he was benched for three consecutive games, publicly criticised the head coach and was omitted for a Champions League match at Inter before apologising to teammates and reconciling with the coaching staff. His return restored a principal goal threat; he posted the highest expected goals (xG) on the pitch (0.55) despite not scoring, marking his 88th major European appearance.
