"The obvious game would be beating Liverpool in 2024 because that was so good for the people, Dyche tells FourFourTwo. Those derby games are for the fans. I didn't grow up in the city so I don't know about the depth of feeling, but I knew we had a bad record at Goodison against Liverpool, so it was nice for the supporters."
"The best features, fun and footballing quizzes, straight to your inbox every week. We were down to brass tacks, injuries everywhere, had to change the system, going with a back three and playing wing-backs who weren't wing-backs, we had no centre-forward so we played Demarai Gray there, and we had to win. From a management, staff, planning and player performance point of view, that one was the biggest and most enjoyable."
Sean Dyche returned to football management at Nottingham Forest after a ten-month absence and departure from Everton in January 2025. He spent two years at Everton overseeing 84 games while fighting relegation amid financial problems and a subsequent points deduction. Notable successes included a 2-0 Goodison Park victory over Liverpool in 2024 and a decisive 1-0 win over Bournemouth to secure Premier League survival in 2022-23. The survival required tactical adaptation, a back three, wing-backs playing out of position, using Demarai Gray as a centre-forward, and intensive short-term preparation. Dyche is 54 years old and became Forest's third manager of the season.
