San Jose Earthquakes signed RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner as a designated player through 2028. The club had lost Josef Martínez and Cristian Espinoza to free agency, and forward Cristian Arango is likely headed to Atlético Nacional, creating a need for attacking reinforcements. Espinoza and Martínez combined for 18 goals and 14 assists last season. Werner, 29, made three appearances totaling 13 minutes this season in his second stint with Leipzig and scored three goals in 41 appearances while on loan at Tottenham. Werner will occupy an international roster spot. San Jose acquired his discovery priority from New York Red Bulls for $50,000 in 2026 GAM.
