""Kill Rubiales," which he said on Thursday is "for those who want to know the reality.""
""I didn't know what he had in his hands," Rubiales told Radio Marca afterwards."
""I thought he might have a gun ... I wasn't thinking about myself.""
Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish football federation, was targeted with three eggs at a Madrid book-launch event on Maria de Molina Street while being interviewed. He resigned as RFEF president in September 2023 after outrage over his behaviour following Spain's Women's World Cup win, including an unsolicited kiss on player Jenni Hermoso, and was found guilty earlier this year of sexual assault. Video showed Rubiales attempting to confront the attacker before security removed the individual and police detained a man outside. His High Court appeal was dismissed in June; he was fined over €10,000, acquitted of coercion, and his lawyer said a Supreme Court appeal would follow.
