Report: Liverpool, Bayern Munich in heated race for BVB's Nico Schlotterbeck
"I can't say it's true, in this case, that Bayern Munich are ahead of Liverpool in the race for Nico Schlotterbeck. That's because Bayern aren't putting a lot of pressure on this deal at the present time. There are still talks between Borussia Dortmund and Schlotterbeck over the possibility of a new contract. That said, Bayern do have the Germany international on their list, of course, and now they have to wait and see how things go with two other names - Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi."
"So, Schlotterbeck is on the list, but he's not the number one target on the list. Jonathan Tah is Bayern's only German defender since Philipp Lahm, so they are searching for such players. However, if the other two solutions work out as planned, they won't need Nico Schlotterbeck."
Bayern Munich consider Nico Schlotterbeck a possible recruit but are not actively pushing the deal and currently trail Liverpool in urgency. Borussia Dortmund continue negotiations with Schlotterbeck about a potential new contract, leaving Bayern to monitor developments. Bayern also evaluate Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi as alternative defensive options and will prioritize those targets if moves materialize. Jonathan Tah remains the club's only German defender since Philipp Lahm, prompting a search for domestic defensive options. If Upamecano or Guehi signings succeed as planned, Bayern likely will not pursue Schlotterbeck further.
