"After a long hesitation, Bayern have decided to grant Dayot Upamecano his wish of a €65m release clause that can be activated from summer 2027. The extension is now a matter of time. But the release clause doesn't necessarily mean that Upamecano is planning to leave after one year. It merely provides him security that he has a fixed option if he wants to take on a new challenge"
"Hmmm. In one breath Bild is reporting that it is not a big deal, but in the other Upamecano can make the fickle determination that he wants a new challenge or that Bayern Munich could fall apart after one season with him as the figurehead of the backline. This seems like a bit of damage control to negotiations that seem very one-sided."
Bayern granted Dayot Upamecano a €65m release clause that can be activated from summer 2027. The clause provides Upamecano security and a fixed option to pursue a new challenge or to leave if Bayern are no longer able to win major trophies. Vincent Kompany played a significant role in convincing Upamecano to remain, expressing appreciation and a clear desire to continue working with him. Upamecano also secured a salary up to €20m gross per year and a signing fee comparable to Alphonso Davies's previous deal. The release clause gives Upamecano an easy out in 2027, even if he chooses to stay.
