'Prove the point': Thomas Tuchel warns Marcus Rashford not to waste his talent
""It's not a question of talent, it's a question of whether he can prove the point at club and international level, Tuchel explained, speaking from Riga ahead of England's World Cup qualifier against Latvia. Otherwise, he will be disappointed in 10 years at what could have been and what he made of it. I think the limit for him is very, very high. Maybe higher than for others.""
""He has the potential - but potential is a dangerous word with high-level sports. You have to reach your personal best on a regular basis - that is what is demanded on this kind of level, and that is the challenge for him. Tuchel continued, adding Rashford has no limits, but that his output did not match his talent. He can be one of the best in the world because the quality I see in training, the finishing with both legs and with the head.""
""He is explosive, he is fast, he is strong in the air, so where are the limits? There are no limits - but the numbers don't reach the potential, it is as easy as that. We have just had so many changes so far in my career but I have to look forward and that it definitely one of the things I want to put right and improve on to be at my best more often.""
Marcus Rashford was called up to Tuchel's first England squad despite not playing for the Three Lions since March 2024 and made a cameo appearance against Wales. Tuchel warned that Rashford must convert his talent into consistent club and international performances or risk regretting unfulfilled potential in ten years. Tuchel said Rashford's limit is very high and that potential can be dangerous without regular personal bests. Tuchel highlighted Rashford's finishing with both feet and head, explosiveness, pace and aerial strength, but noted the numbers do not match the potential. Rashford acknowledged career changes and vowed to improve consistency to be at his best more often.
