Prep talk: Simi Valley's Izak Simpson, recruited off basketball court, becomes football star
Briefly

Jim Benkert discovered Izak Simpson when he was scorekeeping a basketball game. After asking him why he didn't try football, Simpson joined the team as a sophomore, learning everything from scratch and excelling with 14 sacks last season and 15 this season.
Despite having family members who played football, including a grandfather who played for the Dallas Cowboys, Izak Simpson initially focused on basketball. Coach Benkert's encouragement led him to embrace football, and now he enjoys it wholeheartedly.
Mater Dei's Raul Lara claimed that this year's Monarchs team is the most talented he has coached, surpassing previous championship teams at Long Beach Poly that included future Hall of Fame tight end, Marcedes Lewis.
Oxnard Pacifica's success in reaching the Division 4 final can be attributed to an excellent receiving duo, Savion Taylor and Isaiah Dillon, who have combined for impressive stats in receptions and touchdowns this season.
