Potter named new Sweden coach after West Ham dismissal - Soccer News
"Former West Ham and Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been confirmed as the new head coach of Sweden, taking on the position on a short-term basis to revive their faltering World Cup qualifying campaign. Sweden have been without a manager since Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked following a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on October 13 - a result that ended their hopes of automatic qualification."
"Potter said: "I am very humbled by the assignment, but also incredibly inspired. Sweden has fantastic players who deliver in the world's best leagues during the week. My job will be to create the conditions so that we as a team deliver at the highest level to take Sweden to the World Cup next summer." Potter's first game in charge will be against Switzerland in a World Cup qualifier next month, before making his home bow in another qualifier versus Slovenia."
Graham Potter has been appointed Sweden head coach on a short-term basis to revive a faltering World Cup qualifying campaign. Sweden have been without a manager since Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on October 13, a result that ended hopes of automatic qualification. Sweden can still reach the play-offs thanks to their finish in the 2024-25 Nations League. Potter returns to management less than a month after his West Ham dismissal, where he won six of 23 matches after taking charge in January. A poor start with five losses in six games left West Ham in the Premier League's bottom three. Potter said he is humbled and inspired and aims to create conditions for the team to qualify for next summer's World Cup. His first matches are away to Switzerland and at home to Slovenia.
