Carla Ward, manager of the Republic of Ireland, expressed concerns over player safety during a friendly match against the USA, citing extreme heat and high humidity. Despite cooling breaks, players were physically fatigued, leading to enforced substitutions. Ward described the weather conditions as dangerously hot while emphasizing the value of the learning experience gained from competing against the world's top-ranked team. Though the team suffered defeats, she noted positive developments in tactics and team cohesion, indicating a focus on upcoming challenges, including a Nations League play-off against Belgium.
In the second half players were almost begging to come off and we couldn't do anything about it. We can't do anything about the heat, but it is dangerously hot out there and with humidity at 94%, I have never felt anything like it.
We've looked at two different systems and ways of playing, we have added a couple of layers to what we are trying to do, and it has been such a positive camp overall.
