Phil Parkinson revels as Wrexham pass 'next stage' by beating Premier League's Forest
"This was another test against Premier League opposition and the next stage of our development is playing against these players. If you give them an inch you're going to get punished and they were clinical in those moments. We will analyse that and learn from it."
"Only briefly. We'll have a chat next week as a group. We've got players coming back into the group [from injury], but if we do make any signings hopefully they'll be strategic ones and give the group a lift. We don't want to make signings for the sake of it. But if we can make improvement and feel it's the right decisions, then we'll go for that."
Wrexham beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw over 120 minutes at the SToK Cae Ras, with co-owner Ryan Reynolds in attendance. The match marked the first meeting with top-flight opposition since the owners began the club's rise from the National League to the Championship. Manager Phil Parkinson described the tie as a test against Premier League players and emphasised analysing and learning from moments when opponents were clinical. Wrexham have won four successive Championship games and sit one point from the play-offs. Owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds spent over £30m in the summer, and Parkinson said potential January signings would be strategic while injured players return. Forest boss Sean Dyche criticised his side's first-half performance as unacceptable.
