Paramount to show Champions League games in UK from 2027
"US media giant Paramount has won the rights to show Champions League matches in the UK from 2027. BBC Sport has been told the company will pay well in excess of the 1bn-a-year deal currently in place with TNT. The deal will run for four years to 2031. Amazon Prime will continue to show a game every Tuesday in the UK for four years."
"Sources have suggested the deal could be seen as good news for the Premier League given it adds another big broadcasting name to the football rights market and should not lead to an overall reduction in the TV pot. There has recently been speculation of a bid by Paramount for Warner Bros Discovery, which includes TNT in its portfolio."
Paramount has secured UK rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League matches from 2027 under a four-year agreement running to 2031. The company will pay well in excess of the existing £1bn-a-year deal currently held by TNT. Amazon Prime will continue to show one match every Tuesday in the UK for four years. The deal follows the UC3 initiative involving UEFA, the European Club Association and Relevent. Paramount collaborated with UEFA on films for recent Champions League draws. Observers say the move adds another major broadcaster to the market and is unlikely to reduce the overall TV rights pot.
