Oxford United appoint Bloomfield as new head coach
"This felt like the right place at the right time. Oxford United are a club with good foundations, ambition and a playing group with significant potential, and that matches exactly where I am as a coach,"
"I want my teams to work hard, attack with purpose and play with a clear identity,"
"Everyone has to understand their role, be accountable and deliver consistently."
Matt Bloomfield, 41, has been appointed head coach of Oxford United, replacing Gary Rowett who was dismissed on 23 December following one win in ten matches. Bloomfield was sacked as Luton boss in October and had been out of work since. Oxford sit 23rd in the Championship, three points adrift of safety. Bloomfield will watch Friday's FA Cup third-round tie at MK Dons while interim manager Craig Short remains in the dugout, and will take charge ahead of the visit of Bristol City on 17 January. A decision on his coaching staff and the length of his deal will be made in due course.
