'Not nice' for Hobinger to be named in stalking case
""Hopefully this is coming to the end. What we care about are the players and we massively care about Marie and the situation she is going through," "It's not nice, particularly the fact she's been named also. I don't think that's great. But we deal with it. "Nobody wants to see these things happening in any walk of life, so hopefully it's drawn to a conclusion really soon."
""Mangal Dalal targeted [Hobinger] and treated her as an object that he could use to air his fantasies. "His messaging was intense, continual, and totally inappropriate.""
Marie Hobinger, a Liverpool midfielder, received repeated inappropriate and sexualised messages via Instagram between 27 January and 16 February 2025. Mangal Dalal, 42, of Westminster, pleaded guilty to stalking at Liverpool Magistrates Court and admitted he was mentally unwell at the time. Dalal often included his mobile number and postcode in the messages. Sentencing is scheduled for 20 January 2026 at Westminster Magistrates' Court. Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor expressed concern for Hobinger and emphasised the club's role in protecting players. The Crown Prosecution Service said naming the victim aimed to deter offenders and encourage other victims to come forward.
