Newcastle United are engaged in talks with Inter Milan to sign 25-year-old midfielder Davide Frattesi, with Inter setting an asking price of €40m (£34.5m) and seeking a swift conclusion. The club are also finalising the signing of German attacker Nick Woltemade for a fee rising to £69m, a move expected to pave the way for Alexander Isak to join Liverpool in a British transfer record. Frattesi was an unused substitute in Inter's Champions League Final, has had limited appearances this Serie A season, and scored five goals in nine league starts last season. Isak has ruled himself out of Newcastle selection and stated his relationship with club higher-ups has broken down.

He is intent on a transfer having insisted in a public statement that the relationship has broken down with higher-ups at St. James' Park.
