Newcastle: Anthony Gordon makes comparison between Nick Woltemade and Bayern star Harry Kane
"I think they do play a very similar style of football," Gordon told a press conference ahead of England's friendly with Wales. "In terms of they want to almost be like the quarterback, they want to come in and create, they don't just want to finish the chances like a typical striker would do."
"The amount of assists Harry has got over the past couple of years and over his career is outstanding and, for me personally, I think it helps me because my style suits playing with that style of striker because I can run off them."
"If defenders want to go and engage with them, I can run off the back, so I think it is really positive for me and I really enjoy it."
Woltemade joined Newcastle for a club-record £69million from Stuttgart in August as part of a move to replace Alexander Isak, who signed for Liverpool for a British-record fee. Yoane Wissa also arrived but is ruled out until November with a knee injury. Woltemade has scored four goals in seven appearances and netted a penalty in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, becoming the third Newcastle player to score in each of his first three Premier League home games. Anthony Gordon says Woltemade prefers to drop deep and create play, a style comparable to Harry Kane, which benefits his own forward runs.
