Neil backs new boy Bannan to provide 'extra quality'
"Hopefully it gives us an extra bit of quality, experience, a bit of knowhow for the run-in. [It's] a good bit of business. Anything that can come in and help us try and achieve something, I think is more than welcome. I think Barry's experience and that little bit of quality he's got on the edge of the box with his left foot - picking passes, at set-plays and goals - is going to be helpful for us."
"If he didn't want to make the move, he wouldn't be here," Neil added."
Millwall sit fifth in the Championship after a 4-0 win over Charlton, six points behind the top two with 17 regular-season fixtures remaining. The club has not been in such a strong position for promotion since reaching the 2001-02 Division One play-off semi-finals. Manager Alex Neil signed 36-year-old Barry Bannan from Sheffield Wednesday to strengthen promotion credentials. Bannan spent more than ten years at Hillsborough, including five and a half as club captain. Neil expects Bannan's experience, leadership and left-footed technical ability on the edge of the box, set-plays and passing to add quality for the run-in. Bannan is expected to debut at The Den against Sheffield United. Neil rejected suggestions that Bannan's long association with Sheffield Wednesday undermines his commitment to Millwall.
