He said he appreciated being part of the match and welcomed facing longtime opponents Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suárez on the field again. Müller last faced Messi in the Champions League on March 8, 2023, and noted it is always nice to meet old opponents even if they are not close friends. He also noted past results are not very important for the future and holds a 7-3 record against teams for which Messi plays, while recalling Germany's World Cup victories over Argentina in 2010 and 2014 and Javier Mascherano's involvement in those Argentina teams.
