Milan close to signing Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea in 36.2m deal
Briefly

Milan are set to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku for a 42m (36.2m) package that includes a sell-on clause, with Nkunku agreeing personal terms. Chelsea have overhauled their attack and do not see Nkunku in their plans. The club expect to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho for between 35m and 40m to strengthen Enzo Maresca's options. Selling Nkunku does not directly relate to pursuing Garnacho because they occupy different positions, but the sale could free space to pursue an attacking midfielder such as Fermin Lopez or Xavi Simons. Nkunku left Leipzig for 52m in 2023 and has struggled with form and fitness after a knee injury, making mainly a bit-part contribution, though he helped Chelsea win the Club World Cup. Bayern wanted only a loan; Chelsea want a permanent sale. Nicolas Jackson may be allowed to move on loan with an obligation to buy, and multiple clubs are tracking Jackson and Tyrique George.

They are expected to add to Enzo Maresca's options by signing the Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho for between 35m and 40m.
Leipzig were one of the teams pushing for Nkunku, who left the Bundesliga side for 52m in 2023. The 28-year-old has struggled for form and fitness at Chelsea. He picked up a knee injury during his first pre-season and was unable to build momentum. He had a bit-part role under Maresca last season, although he made contributions to Chelsea winning the Club World Cup this summer.
