"This is a group in transition, with exciting young talent developing at international level while remaining competitive. There is a good balance of experience alongside a generation of players currently breaking through, and I want to support them with the elite level structures needed to turn that potential into a consistent national standard."
"Supporters can expect a team that is disciplined, brave in possession and relentless without the ball, continuing to reflect the hard-working character that defines Northern Ireland teams."
Michael McArdle, the Scottish FA's head of elite women's football, has been appointed as Northern Ireland's permanent women's football manager. He replaces interim boss Kris Lindsay following Northern Ireland's two opening World Cup qualifying defeats to Switzerland and Turkey. McArdle, a former Ayr United assistant, previously served as Scotland's interim head coach for four Nations League A matches before Melissa Andreatta's permanent appointment. In his new role beginning April 1, McArdle will lead Northern Ireland through remaining qualifying fixtures, starting with a double-header against Malta on April 14 and 18. McArdle emphasized the group's transition phase, highlighting the balance between experienced players and emerging young talent, and committed to implementing elite-level structures to develop competitive standards.
