The president of the French football federation has expressed strong support for referees after Marseille president Pablo Longoria accused them of corruption following his team's defeat. Longoria's comments questioned the integrity of refereeing decisions and he described his club as a victim of an organized plot. The federation condemned these remarks, citing potential damage to the league's image. The referees' union responded with legal threats and plans to address the issue with the federation's ethics committee, indicating the seriousness of the dispute and the impact on the sport.
"Calling into question the integrity of our referees is defamatory, unacceptable and reprehensible. Such comments seriously damage the image of our league," said Philippe Diallo.
"Lawsuits will be filed for defamation. And against all those behind the hate messages and death threats received since last night," stated the referee's union, SAFE.
