Lionel Messi agreed to a new three-year contract with Inter Miami through 2028. The signing ensures Messi will be with the club for its planned move into a new stadium next year. The deal was announced one day before Inter Miami's playoff opener against Nashville, with the club set to host Game 1 of the best-of-three series. A social media post showed Messi signing the contract inside the new stadium under construction with the caption "HE'S HOME." Inter Miami has been selling ticket packages and taking deposits on seats in the new park assuming Messi would remain. Messi was MLS MVP last season and is the strong favorite to win the award again. Messi won the MLS Golden Boot this season after scoring 29 goals. Coach Javier Mascherano emphasized Messi's competitiveness and the need to make him comfortable on the pitch to create opportunities for team success.
