Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, warned against overlooking A22's threat to European football following their latest European Super League proposal. Although A22's plans appear to lack strong support, Tebas is worried that apathy among clubs could allow elitist ideas to gain traction. He stressed the need for leagues to openly challenge misleading propositions, highlighting the importance of addressing these challenges rather than allowing day-to-day operations to consume the focus of football clubs. He accused A22 of attempting to instigate instability within the European football system.
Tebas emphasized, "What they're looking for is to generate instability and uncertainty in European football ... If we didn't, some of the clubs could believe it."
He described A22's proposal as not a serious project at all, warning that the sporting model they offer is "elitist and oligarchic."
The president of La Liga stated, "The leagues should really speak out about this problem ... they're trying to mislead European football."
Tebas expressed concern that clubs overwhelmed with day-to-day operations might fail to recognize the potential threat of A22's propositions.
